   Open Evidence Company which is situated in Barcelona (Spain) delivers theory-based and empirically robust research for innovative and inclusive policies and strategies, working with governments, international organizations, and the private sector. Founded in 2013 as a spin-off of the Open University of Catalonia, Open Evidence has successfully managed and completed more than 30 socio-economic studies and research projects, and participated in four H2020 projects including one in Science with and for the Society (SwafS) pillar. Domains of intervention include: Education; Science and Innovation Policy; Behavioural Economics; Climate and the Environment; Public Health; Consumer Protection; Employment and Social Affairs; and the Information Society. In the past, Open Evidence conducted a meta-analysis of Science in/and Society projects (SiS/SaS) on behalf of the European Commission, DG RTD. The company's close link with the university allows them to rely on significant research infrastructure, to maximize their network reach and to provide a strong backbone to project management capacity. Their work team provides high-level scientific and technical expertise, matched by experience in applied policy work and project management skills, which enables them to extract policy sensible and feasible recommendations from scientific evidence. Open Evidence is a "PhD company" , with the capacity to bridge between academia and policy to support evidence-informed policy-making by “opening evidence” in three ways that they call the 3 "O" Approach:

  • Openly presented and shared design and methodology: the research design and methodologies are always transparent and replicable, and they are openly shared with the clients and the community of researchers and practitioners through consultation and validation processes;

  • Opening the black boxes:  the ‘black boxes’ of complex economic models and of analytical econometric and statistical techniques are opened as to ensure that results of the ex-post data analysis or the ex-ante modelling simulations are user-friendly and can be fully understood and challenged by a wide audience of policy makers and practitioners;

  • Open stakeholder engagement: the approach is never technocratic and top-down, but it tries and includes insights and knowledge from broadly defined stakeholders through open online engagement and consultation processes.
